Making the AI Choice

I have spent a considerable amount of time debating the merits of using AI to generate graphics. Admittedly, as the Owner and sole graphic designer for GoodBird.store, I have used AI to help me generate ideas or even portions of the final designs that are for sale in our store today.

At first, it was contempt, I figured that if they were going to steal 20 years’ worth of my artwork to train their tool, I may as well get my money’s worth.

However, after reading many posts from folks who disdain the use of AI to generate artwork and reading the opposing arguments which tend to be more apathetic rather than a full endorsement of using it, I decided to move away from using AI to generate artwork for the GoodBird.store designs.

Stock Images from Istockphoto.com

I have used and will continue to use istockphoto.com which has dedicated human created artwork, which makes it easy for me to quickly create concepts without using AI.

The artists that generate stock images should be paid for it, not the AI tool that has taken from their artwork to generate the monotonous styling and often poorly constructed graphics that we keep seeing over and over again. I am happy to pay the licensing for their artwork as it is their time and creativity that I consider worth paying for.

Artwork Origins Description

In an effort to be transparent about what designs have AI so that you can make the choice for yourself, I am adding an Artwork Origin description to each of our products detailing whether or not the artwork was generated in part or in whole by AI, istockphotos.com, featured artists, or is a GoodBird original artwork.
